Rocket Stove Mass Heaters Are A Cheap Way To Keep Your Greenhouse Warm
There’s no doubt that growing your own food can save you lots of money and improve your health. The biggest problem that most people have is being able to grow food all year round. Having a greenhouse is great, but if you can’t keep it warm your plants won’t survive. It can be very expensive to heat a greenhouse with an electric or gas heater. This expense reduces any money you might save from growing your own food.
What if there was another way to heat your greenhouse that was economical? Well there is, Barry Franck lives in a very cold climate and keeps his greenhouse warm with a rocket stove mass heater. Barry shared his findings with the ASC magazine in November of 2013. Barry says ‘Rocket stove mass heaters are great because the create radiant heat, use only one third of the wood normally consumed in a fireplace and can be made beautiful in homes and very useful in greenhouses’.

This type of heater is 90 – 95% energy efficient as it can retain heat for several hours without burning more wood. Barry’s greenhouse is maintaining a temperature of around 70°F even when the temperature is as low as -20°F outside. That’s a lot of heat for one little stove to put out, however Barry has shown that it can be done. He can now grow food all year round and doesn’t have expensive heating bills to contend with.
