Kelly and Keith Hoehn, Shoot and Kill Burglar Dakota Scott Benoit

When Dakota Scott Benoit, 20, and John Garland Pierson, 25, broke into the home of Kelly and Keith Hoehn in Blue Mound, Texas, they picked the wrong house.

Kelly Hoehn, 34, was not going to let the two gunmen who entered her house early Wednesday morning put her family in danger. That is all she thought when she grabbed the barrel of the shotgun that Dakota Scott Benoit pointed at her face, pushed it away from her children’s rooms and screamed for her husband to help. Keith Hoehn, 32, tackled Benoit, wrestling the gun free and opening fire on the second assailant who was armed with a pistol. That man, John Garland Pierson, fled the scene injured. Dakota Scott Benoit, however, didn’t give up that easily and came at the armed Keith Hoehn. Hoehn shot Benoit twice, killing him.

"I am not happy that someone is dead," Kellie Hoehn said. "But I am glad that my family is alive." John Garland Pierson is in critical condition after the Keith Hoehn’s shot pierced his diaphragm and other organs. He has been charged with burglary with intent to commit another felony. Dakota Scott Benoit was later pronounced dead. The Hoehns will probably not be charged with a crime because they were protecting themselves and their family.

Here is another GroundReport article about armed robbery.
