Kenya Airways to stop giving travel agents in Uganda Commission

Kenya Airways is to stop giving travel agents in Uganda commission this year in keeping with the worldwide trend of airlines. It becomes the second airline in Uganda to do so after British Airways. When contacted to comment on this move and the implications it will have on the travel agents in Uganda, a Senior travel Consultant with one of the major travel companies said that ‘its been something that we have been expecting for sometime but we shall survive. Infact it is welcome news to the big agencies in Uganda.’ Asked in what way she said that the big agencies have negotiated special rates with the airlines so they could end up getting more than they were getting when on commission basis. However the move by the airline is likely to affect  the small travel agents who do not have ‘a strong bargaining power with the airlines,’ She added.

Kenya Airways has been giving travel agents seven percent commission per ticket sold.
