Kenya Hit With Violence In Pre-Elections

Eric Kiraithe, the national police spokesman said in a news conference that eighty-seven huts have been razed to the ground. About two-hundred and sixty-seven families displaced as a result of the villages being attacked by arson. The previous elections in Kenya have been plagued by partisan violence.

He also warned the politicians against fanning animosity amongst the ethnic groups.

Locals are being recruited by the police to serve as reserve officers in the Mount Elgon region. In that region, hundreds have died in the fighting according to Mr. Kiraithe.

For the December 27 elections, over fourteen million Kenyans have registered to vote. The elections will choose a new president, parliament, and local councils.
