In 2002, the KGMC was upgraded as a medical university and the Dental College was a constituent college of this new university. However, a year later in late 2003, the dental college was upgraded as a separate university by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Prof CP Govila was appointed as the 1st Vice Chancellor of this new university on 22nd May 2004.
KGDU is a premier dental education centre of the country. The Dental University treats about 60,000 patients’ annually. Besides the well equipped outpatients’ clinics, it also houses a ward with 20 beds for the Trauma & Maxillofacial Surgery Department. The Hospital has modern equipment such as laser for Periodontics, dental implants, Hydrosoldering Unit, Light Cure, Ultrasonic Scalers, Desensitizing Unit and Pressure Moulding Machine.Although independent now, the new university works in close collaboration with the KGMU. The two sister institutions complement each other to fulfill the teaching and training requirements of both BDS and MBBS students.
