Just freed on bail, former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today said her elder son and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman will remain out of politics for five years as an agreement between Khaleda and Caretaker Government.
Talking to reporters at the party central office, Khaleda this afternoon called for holding the long stalled ninth parliamentary elections first and lifting the state of emergency without any delay.
Khaleda said the BNP will take part in the ongoing third round of dialogue with the Election Commission.
Getting released at about 12:05 in the afternoon, she first drove straight to the grave of her husband and late president Ziaur Rahman to place floral wreath and offer Fateha.
Later, she visited Tarique at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in the capital where he has been receiving treatment. Khaleda stayed beside her son for about two hours and 10 minutes at the hospital.
After that, she drove to the BNP central office in the city’s Nayapaltan area. She is expected to go to her Shaheed Mainul Road residence in the cantonment area.
