Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) yesterday alleged that the terrorists belonging to Awami League killed Subhashini Das, mother of party leader Nityalal Das, at Kuliarchor in Kishoreganj district after the election and gunned down BNP Ramna thana unit vice-president and president of Dhaka City Ward-56 Swechchasebak Dal, Nazrul Islam.
Strongly condemning the killings, BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar Hossain, in a statement, said adopting the same old style, the leaders and workers of Awami League were unleashing terrorism across the country after the election.
"The Awami terrorism across the country bore testimony to the fact that the Awami League president’s call to her party workers to show restraint was nothing but an eye wash," he said adding that like Subhashini Das and Nazrul Islam, many people were the victims of ‘Awami brutalities’.
Delwar said news relating to looting of shops, properties and means of livelihood of BNP leaders and workers by ‘Awami League terrors’ are pouring-in from different places of the country every single day.
"The reign of terror let loose by the Awami League activists reminded the people of the autocratic rules during the periods between 1972 and 1975 and 1996 and 2001," said the BNP leader demanding immediate arrest and trial of the killers of Subhashini Das and Nazrul Islam.
Giving detailed description of the nature of attacks, vandalism, intimidation and looting of valuables of BNP men by what he said leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies in different places including Satkhira-1, Patuakhali-4 and Tangail-2 constituencies, in Pabna and Comilla districts, after the election, Delwar said such incidents were the reflection of Awami League’s ‘fascist character’.
The BNP secretary general called upon the Awami League leadership to stop such acts of terrorism.
