Flash flood damaged infrastructure in Khoth area of upper Chitral.
CHITRAL: After erosion of a water channel flash flood ruined infrastructure in Khot area of Upper Chitral. According to SHO police station Torkho heavy flood damaged houses of Haji Hussain, water channel of 3 mini hydro power, 3 watermill and 3 bridges damaged. Hence former Nazim Union council Sher Muhammad who is eye witness of the scene told this scribe that 3 jeep able and 4 pedestal bridges, 1 mini hydro power house totally damaged hence water channel of 3 hydro power were wash away by flood. He said that forest, land and standing crop were also damaged as a result residents of the area faced great financial loss hence no human loss reported until filling of this report. Sher Muhammad said that we trying to contact the district administration and high ups of provincial government to compensate the affected people as well as to support inhabitants of the area for restoration and reconstruction of watermill, bridges and hydro powerhouses.
Gilgit called back polo teams.
Due to land dispute between Chitral (Khyber Pukhtoonhwa) and Gilgit Baltistan on Shundor Gilgit administration directed their polo teams to come back and not participate in Shundor Polo festival. As Gilgit Baltistan people claim on Shundor land that Shundor is their property but Chitral people deny their claim and stressed that Shundor is the right of Chitral people. In this connection Provincial Minister for population welfare Saleem Khan, District Coordination Officer Chitral Rahmatullah Wazir and elites of the area attended a meeting with Gilgit Baltistan administration at Phandar to settle the issue amicably but they failed to persuade Gilgit administration to participate in Shundor polo festivals. As a result Gilgit Baltistan administration called their teams back and they returned from Shundor hence district administration of Chitral are on the opinion that they are still trying to convince them and to agree them for participation in annual Shundor polo festival. In case of no participation by Gilgit teams might Shundor polo festival would be affected badly. Although DCO Chitral is stressing to continue the match among the Chitral polo teams only.
