Mwai Kibaki after meeting with US diplomat Jendayi Frazer, he wanted to help with the recovery process in Kenya. The opposition leader, Raila Odinga said that he was willing to negotiate. However, Odinga reiterates his view that Kibaki should step down as Kenya’s president.
Violence has plagued Kenya in the previous month after the election polls came in giving the victory to Kibaki. However, the opposition says that the elections were rigged.
Several hundred people had died in the clashes that followed. Ms. Frazer explains that Kibaki is reaching to the opposition and to all parties to embrace dialogue. However, Odinga says he is not prepared to negotiate through the media.
He would only consider this proposal at official negotiations. So far, Odinga has not received a formal invitation as of yet.
“Our starting point is that Kibaki is there illegally. He should not come to the negotiating table as the president,” Odinga has said.
It looked as if Odinga is not interested in Kibaki’s proposal. He said that it was the government’s way of cheating Kenyans out of their rights. These talks come after warnings from the United Nations that a humanitarian crisis in Kenya would become worse.
While there is plenty of food, the trucks were not able to deliver it because of the violence on the roads according to BBC.
