Srinagar, January 28, (Scoop News)- The Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo convened a high level meeting to assess the security situation prevailing in the Kashmir Province here today.
The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police, DIGs South, North and Central Kashmir, DIG Traffic, DIG Armed Police, DIG CID, SSPs Srinagar, Budgam, SP Security and SP Police Control Room.
The Minister highly appreciated the role of Police department in maintaining law and order in the Valley and expressed his satisfaction over the prevailing security scenario.
The Minister was informed about the steps being taken by the Police department in maintaining peace in the Valley. He was told that the Republic Day was celebrated peacefully across the Valley.
Kichloo however, urged the Police department to adopt people friendly approach while maintaining law and order and involve the people in the process to reap the better results. He urged them to organize sports and cultural events to channelize their capabilities properly.
The Minister asked the traffic authorities to ensure regulation traffic movement on National Highway and Valley roads to avoid frequent traffic jams and to decongest the city roads.
The Minister also discussed the pace of work on Jehangir Chowk-Ram Bagh flyover and asked the concerned authorities to ensure proper management and regulation of traffic to avoid any crisis which may arise due to construction of Jehangir Chowk-Ram Bagh flyover.
Referring to drug menace, the Minister exhorted upon the Police authorities to take necessary measures for curbing it by involving civil society in a campaign against drug abuse and arrange for counselling and rehabilitation of drug addicts, so that their talent is used nation building activities.
