Peshawar: The government has launched a crackdown on Afghan refugees in different parts of Bajaur agency after finding evidence of their involvement in militancy and attacks on Pakistani security forces.
Majority of these Afghan refugees came from Kunar province to Bajaur after the Soviet invasion on Afghanistan and they were accommodated in 25 refugee camps in the beginning but when the government decided to send them back so the camps were demolished they settled here.
The Afghan refugees were running maximum of the businesses in the region and had acquired property.
The people of Bajaur are peace loving and very friendly but because of these outsiders like Afghans, Arabs & Uzbeks; they have developed bad habits, a senior official said.
Some 14000 Afghan refugees have already left Bajaur agency for Afghanistan and government has extended the deadline, so pamphlets in Urdu have been distributed in the agency asking them to go back to Afghanistan.
