Kidnappers Release Borno Councilor In Niger

A 36-year-old councilor representing Biu ward in Borno State, Mallam Abdullahi Mohammed, has been found in Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, after being kidnapped from Borno State.

Mohammed, who was drugged by his kidnappers, was dumped in a ditch at Kagara, Kaduna – Lagos Road.

The councilor, according to sources, was found around 5:30 a.m. with his mouth gagged with cellophane material.

Mohammed’s hands and legs, according to eyewitness, were also tied with ropes, while his nose and eyes were covered like that of a corpse ready for burial.

A passerby, who found the body, reported to the police, while a team of detectives led by Inspector Auta Ibrahim, took the councilor to Kagara General Hospital, where he was resuscitated.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State command, ASP Richard Oguche, confirmed the incident via a telephone call.

Oguche confirmed that about four unidentified persons kidnapped the councilor in his office in Biu at about 10 am on Thursday January 26.

According to the PPRO, "the councilor said that some people whom he knew came to his office on a visit on the said date and offered him yoghurt and a malt drink. They were all taking the drinks together when he became unconscious and from there they whisked him away."

He disclosed that the Police was investigating the incident while assuring that necessary action would be taken after the completion of the investigation.
