Jammu, September 18: Jammu and Kashmir police, have failed to unravel the mystery behind a murder most foul in posh Trikuta Nagar colony in Jammu in which three family members, a domestic helper and the driver of business magnate Rajinder Bhushan Chopra were murdered in cold blood on September 17, 2006.
The police claimed to have come close to cracking the case on numerous occasions but two surviving sons of the deceased Puneet and Rohit Chopra are still waiting to see the culprits behind bars.
"The police say they have identified the gang of killers and also made arrests but, to date, the kingpin is still at large and we do not know for sure if they are the real culprits," Puneet said.
Unhappy with the pace of investigations in the case, Puneet said the case is heading nowhere. No substantive progress has been made by police on the case in these years, Puneet Chopra said.
Even after two years, we are fighting a legal battle and running from pillar to post but the police have still not worked out the case.
After the fall of the popular government, the Chopras made efforts to bring the office of the Governor in to the picture and dispatched all relevant documents and details of the case to the Governor, but they have not received any response, Puneet reported.
He said, "We are still finding it difficult to stomach the fact that CBI was not willing to investigate the case."
Raising question marks, Puneet wondered why the CBI can investigate the Arushi Murder case but cannot investigate the Chopra murder case. He said in the last hearing that he was given an assurance by the Judge that if police failed to achieve any major headway in the case, the case will be automatically shifted to the CBI for investigations. "We are sitting with fingers crossed and waiting for the first opportunity to unmask the killers of our family," Puneet said.
