Know something about Computer viruses

Having a computer that too with internet facility entails you with more responsibility and additional burden of grappling with computer viruses, installing an effective anti-virus programme to safeguard your privacy and to protect your computer from being tampered with or to prevent the incoming information that you may receive from being intercepted by unknown persons.

We should necessarily have knowledge and equip ourselves about the viruses and the anti-virus programmes available in the computer world. There are both free and paid anti-virus programmes available in the internet world and they are available at the reach of a finger tip.

Security from the Symantec has revealed that the number of computer viruses in the world has crossed one million.

A major chunk of these viruses and Trojans were born, only in the last one year. According to the latest report by the Symantec, 7,11,913 malware and virus threats  came up in 2007 taking the total number of  viruses in the world to 1,122,311.

The report says that the majority of them were directed at the popular Windows Operating Systems of Microsoft. Most of the new viruses are spruced up versions of older malware which has been doing the round for years. They were ‘done up’ so to say to fool anti-virus  programmes.

Symantec also says that the increase in viruses was also linked to the professionalisation of cyber criminals.

Therefore, even assuming that one may not be an adept computer professional, it is a must that those who are using computers should necessarily be equipped with some knowledge about computer viruses.
