Kollywood Movie ‘Nepali’ Invites Legal Trouble

Angered by the showing of the Police Department in a bad light, a top Police Officer from the Tamilnadu Government  has slapped a Legal Notice on the Director and Producer of the above film.

The Notice was issued on behalf of Mr. M. Ravi, Joint-Commissioner of Police (North Chennai) alleged the movie had portrayed the Police Personnel and Judicial Dignitaries in bad light. It went on further to state that due respect was not shown to the  National Flag in the Movie. By implanting a scene wherein a Police Inspector in uniform  is attempting to rape the heroine, the Movie has aimed at further lowering the image of Police in the eyes of the public. It has also created scope for developing hatred, violence and disharmony between the Police and the Public. The movie has further degraded the image of Police by not only showing the jailer drinking within the Jail premises but also asking the female jail warder to supply women.

The hero taking the law into his own hands and making comments against the Judiciary are all defamatory in nature. The Notice warns of civil and criminal action if the scenes were not deleted and also calls for stopping of screening until amends are made.

Bharath and Meera Jasmine are the hero and heroine of the movie respectively. With the movie getting the Censor Certificate, it is to be seen to what extent the Notice would have impact in a legal battle;but, by getting publicity on this count, it is expected to run to packed houses as such publicity invariably arouses the curiosity of the public, irrespective of the fact whether there is merit in the movie or not.
