Leh (Ladakh), May 17 (Scoop News) –The Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) has been awarded the Renewtech India Excellence Award 2013 for Commendable Performance and in the Renewable Energy Sector on Thuresday at the inaugural function of the 6th edition of Renewtech India 2013 International Expo and Summit being held at Chinchwad, Pune. On behalf of LREDA, Reuben Gergan, Sr. Project Engineer, LREDA received the award from Deepak Gupta, former secretary, MNRE. In addition, Arif Kakpori and Stanzin Choster also represented LREDA on the occasion. The state nodal agencies of Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kargil were also presented awards at the function. The jury for the awards, comprising of former secretary, Ministry of Power, R.V Shahi, and former secretaries, MNRE, Deepak Gupta, Girish Pradhan selected the mentioned agencies from the base of all nodal agencies in the country.
Deepak Gupta congratulated the agency and Project Director (LREDA), Jigmet Takpa for the playing an important role in off-grid renewable energy projects and commended the commitment and effort of LREDA in implementing the Ladakh Renewable Energy Initiative Project, a flagship programme of the Government of India in off-grid renewable energy development which has also been deemed to be the largest project of its kind in the world.
The Renewtech India 2013 conference and exhibition set-up with the support of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, Solar Energy Society of India, Wind Energy Association of India and World Bio Energy Association, was inaugurated by Dato Paduka Haji Sidek Ali, the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, Richard Bale, Consul General of Canada, Deepak Gupta and Ashvin Kumar, Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
The two-day conference and three-day exhibition, currently in progress is focusing on ‘How to achieve additional 30,000 MW Renewable Energy Capacity during the 12th Five Year Plan’. Top officials from the government, various renewable energy-related Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs) as well as international power experts have contributed to the discussions about the existing scenario in the renewable energy sector. LREDA also presented the commitment of LAHDC in supporting renewable energy growth and shared the unique ways of implementation by which renewable energy can meet demands in the remotest areas of India. All leading stakeholders in ‘Renewable Energy and Related Sectors,’ are showcasing their expertise, products and services, while the conference has detailed the progress made so far in the renewable energy sector, future projections as well as regulatory issues.
