Ladakh – Srinagar National Highway Re-opens for traffic after 6 monthes

            Srinagar, April 17 (Scoop News)-Srinagar–Ladakh National Highway which was closed due to snowfall during winter season was re-opened for light vehicular traffic here today.

            In this connection CE, BEACON, Brig. Ashok Butani and District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal,  Ifthikhar-ul-Hassan Bari at Zojilapass near zero point today flagged off hundreds of light vehicles with passengers to Kargil and Srinagar.

            The function organised by BEACON, HIMMANK and district administration was attended by the senior officers of these agencies, passengers and media persons.

            On the occasion,  Butani said that by the efforts of the BEACON and HIMMANK, the road has been opened for traffic in the middle of April. He said an amount of Rs. 53 lakh has been expended for clearance of snow and other works. He further said that 40 kms of road was covered with heavy snow adding that two snow cutters, 5 dozers and 4 latest machines were used for cleaning the road besides 1800 labourers were engaged for the purpose. He said that the snow clearance project of the road was completed in record time of two and a half month.

            He said that 24 big snow avalanches were also removed from the road.

             Butani said that BEACON, HIMMANK and state government are formulating projects for opening of the said road throughout the year.
