The Laffing Devils motorcycle gang is no joke!
Members of the gang are hard core serious when it comes to crime.
Case in point “Sandman”.
Sandman’s real name is Robert Johnston. He has a violent criminal history! He even let his temper get the best of him on one occasion and was arrested for attempted murder – that is a very serious charge. In that case he is alleged to have used a machete on a man.
According to Deputy District Attorney John Pro, Johnston walked in on his wife Melissa and another man in the bedroom of the couple’s Alpine home that ended in a violent confrontation.Johnston is accused of using a machete to stab the man twice, injuring him very badly that he bleed profusely.
According to court documents, Melissa Johnston hid in a closet during the incident cowering in fear and terror.
In court Johnston pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and making a criminal threat. He faced 12 years in prison if convicted on all charges.That’s no laughing matter.
Johnson according to reports brought his 6-year old son to court with him, and as they left the courthouse, a 10News reporter Allison Ash asked him some questions as his little boy looked on in shock.
“Did you try to kill this guy?” She said.
“I can’t talk about the case,” Johnston replied.
“I mean a machete? That’s pretty serious,” asked Ash.
“Is that what you heard?” said Johnston.
“That’s what I heard,” she said.
“I’ve heard a lot of stories,” Johnson replied.
Based on his replies, the reporter asked why anyone make up stories about him, and Johnson said, “I don’t know.”
Johnston said he was taking the advice of his attorney and “pushing forward,” adding that in this country you’re still innocent until proven guilty.
Johnston was ordered to stay at least 100 feet away from his alleged victim, Joshua Adkins, who is not a member of a motorcycle club. He also had a restraining order from his wife, Melissa Johnston at the time.
The incident underscores how seriously violent some made members of the group actually are. Many people seem to take the Laffing devils as some kind of joke on the reality TV show “the Devils ride”- they are anything but that.
