Leh, March 9, (Scoop News)-Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council(LAHDC), Leh,has expressed its dismay over the failure of Union Civil Aviation Ministry to fulfill their assurances in bringing down the air fares both on inbound and outbound destinations and increase the frequency of the flights from various sectors.
In a statement issued at Leh on Sunday, LAHDC said the students, pilgrims and patients were faced with a huge inconvenience to travel to or from the region on account of astronomical airfares.
The tourism industry is also being affected badly and on the other hand there is an urgent need to increase the frequency of flights between Delhi and Leh, the statement said.
In view of this prevailing situation, District Congress Committee (DCC) Leh has decided to send its representatives to the Civil Aviation Ministry and also seek the intervention of the state chief minister, Omar Abdullah.
This was decided in a meeting at DCC office under the chairmanship of Working President, Abas Abidi. Among others the meeting was attended by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar, President Mahila Congress Rinchen Dolkar, vice presidents, councillors, and active congress workers.
DCC meeting was also informed the protests were being carried out by the students in Delhi in this regard and the same was endorsed by Congress Party Leh saying that the party will keep no stone unturned to take up
the issue with all concerned authorities.
The next course of action of the party will depend upon outcome of the party’s meetings with the Civil Aviation and the state chief minster.
However, if a positive outcome is not seen after meeting concerned authorities, then the party will think of an aggressive action to impress upon the concerned authorities about the plights of Ladakhis.
CEC Rigzin Spalbar informed the meeting the LAHDC has taken the matter time and again, and has had several meetings with the Civil Aviation Ministry. However, he regretted that the Ministry has failed to live up to its promises.
