Massive fire through out at Bashundhara City in Dhaka, Bangladesh; the largest shopping mall in south East Asia & 12th largest shopping mall in the world.
The fire that began at around 1.30pm appeared & under control at one point, but start uncontrolled again from 2:30pm as the flames was fanned by the wind, said fire department. Glasses of the corporate office of the Bashundhara Group are melting down. The army along with navy fire experts joined rescue operations.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina asked army, security agencies and all emergency rescue services to join the operations.
At least one person was killed and 11 others were injured in the incident.
The building is 21 stories tall, of which 8 floors hold over 2,000 retail stores and cafeterias. Other floors also house a multiplex cinema and a gymnasium.
Hundreds of thousands of curious people gathered the nearby roads.
The reasons of the fire could not be known immediately. The upper floors are used as the corporate headquarters of the Bashundhara Group.
