The Indian Premiere League, the Twenty Twenty Cricket Tournament, which had its gala opening on April, 23 rd, 2008, is also marred by some recurring controversies ever since the tournament began, the first being the slapping episode involving highly volatile Harbajan Singh and Sreesanth, the second being the rather unnecessary dancing show of girls in their barest minimum outfits in the match venue in the presence of cricket lovers. Is it to attract the attention of the cricket fans or distract the attention of the cricket players who are fielding nearby in the cricket ground, it is still not known.
And now the latest controversy has been created by none other than Mr.Vijay Mallaiya, the Franchise Holder of the Bangalore Royal Challengers Team.Unable to tolerate his team’s poor performance in the tournament, only two wins out of the eight matches so far played with only 4 points in the table, Mr.Mallaiya blamed the team captain Mr.Rahul Dravid and the team’s manager Mr.Charu Sharma. Dravid scored two golden eggs in two league matches and his performance in the other matches was also by no means impressive. Mr.Mallaiya also felt very much for the loss of credibility as a franchise holder of the Bangalore Royal Challegers Team.
Reacting to the comment made by Mr.Mallaiya, Rahul Dravid said that he had no other go but to accept the criticism made by Mr.Mallaiya for not playing well in the IPL tournament. Rahul Dravid also rued over the lack of infrastructure for adequate match practice prior to the commencement of each match.
The trouble in the Bangalore Royal Challengers had been brewing for some time, eversince the first match was lost to Knight Riders of Kolkatta led by Saurav Ganguli and at last it openly erupted consequent to the repeated defeats suffered by the Bangalore Royal Challengers team.
