Leh, December 18, (Scoop News)- On the initiative of Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) a grand rally for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution was organised today. Irrespective of religious and political affiliation, the procession participated by a large number of gathering started-off from Skytsags passing through SNM Hospital, All India Radio Leh, New Bus stand and culminated at Leh pologround.
A two-minute silence for the innocent victims who were killed in Pakistan was observed at the beginning. Later prominent personalities who spoke on the occasion including President LBA Tsewang Thinles, President LGA Geshe Konchok Namgyal, President Anjuman-Imamia Ashraf Ali Barcha, President Anjuman-Moin-ul-Islam Sheikh Saif-ud-Din, representative Christian Association Elihud George, Scholar Tsewang Dorjey and President LBA Youthwing Rinchen Namgyal in one voice urged upon the Centre Governemnt for granting recognition of the long standing demand of the people of Indian Himalayan region.
With nearly 3 million Bhoti speaking population extending from Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh, president LBA described it as a rich language having Indian origin with educational institutions, news bulletins, newspapers and magazines, printing presses and libraries in these regions that fulfills all the criteria for inclusion in the 8th schedule. Ladakhis despite being less in number has always proved beneficial and resourceful for the country in the times of need while the genuine demand of this part of the country has been constantly neglected, he added. He further expressed anguish over not giving due attention for long time now.
Echoing the thoughts of other speakers, presidents AI, AMI, Christian Association collectively appreciated LBA for bringing all religious and political organizations on one platform for one cause. They further said that Bhoti language symbolizes the true identity of this region and that they equally support this genuine demand.
Later a memorandum in the name of Prime Minister of India was submitted to DC Leh urging onward submission of the memorandum to the Government of India.
President INC Leh Tsering Samphel and President BJP Leh Tsering Dorjey Lakrook were also present among others on the occasion.
In a similar rally a two-minute silence was also observed for the victims killed in Pakistan in Nubra Sub-division which was followed by a procession from Mini-stadium Diskit to SDM Office Nubra that was organsied by LBA Nubra. The procession was attended by villagers irrespective of religion in large number stretching from Turtuk to Digger-Tangyar. Later President LBA Nubra Rigzin Wangdus submitted a memorandum in the name of Prime Minister of India through SDM Nubra.
In support to the same demand the people of Nyoma, Mudh and Nidder headed by Sarpanches and Nambardars also took out a big rally at Nyoma today starting from Tsogsdu-Gonpa and culminated at Nyoma chowk. Later they submitted a memorandum to the local administration urging for submission of the memorandum to the Government of India. The members LBA Changthang branch also participated in the rally.
