There have been claims from supporters of Ms. Benazir Bhutto that the lead detective Manzur Mughal was present at the alleged torture of Bhutto’s husband Asif Zardari at the hands of the police eight years ago. As a result, the Sindh government had said that Manzur Mughal had removed himself from the case.
The attempted suicide attack didn’t kill Ms. Bhutto. Instead, about one-hundred and forty people including twenty police officers were killed in that attack on the streets of Karachi. The attacks were aimed at the convoy escorting Ms. Bhutto. Ms. Bhutto had received threats from many Islamic militant groups not to return.
So far, Ms. Bhutto and her supporters have accused certain people in the government and security services of being apart of the attack on her life. The accusations came after the Pakistani government rejected her request to allow international experts to help with the investigation.
This is Ms. Bhutto’s first return to Pakistan after eight years of self-imposed exile when General Pervez Musharref had seized power.
