Leh-Srinagar road thrown open for traffic,Relief & rescue operations continues by Army

 Leh/Srinagar/Jammu,August 13 (Scoop News) – With the completion of 100 feet span bridge at Nurla, constrcuted jointly by Army engineers and GREF, road between Leh and Srinagar was thrown open for traffic today at 6 PM,said  Deputy Commissioner Leh.

Accoerding to official spokesperson ,the bridge was built in a record time of 48 hours. About 150 vehicles including 60 light motor vehicles rushed for Srinagar. Senior Officers of Army, GREF, SDM Khaltsi and I/C PP Khalsi were present on spot.

Meanwhile the army  the army continued its relief and rescue operations in disaster hitting the Ladakh region on seventh day.The focus of the operations is now mainly on restoring road communication on both axis, to rescue tourists stranded in the remote areas of Ladakh and looking after people in relief camps.  On 11 August 2010 three Germans, two Austrian citizens and one Swiss citizen were rescued from various parts of the region. On 12 August 2010, 09 foreign tourists and 13 Indian tourists were evacuated from Rumtse to Leh.

            The Army has continued its effort in restoring connectivity to Leh from Srinagar through Zojila pass and through Rohtang axis to Manali.  The Army Engineers and Border Road Organization are working round the clock by launching bridges and clearing landslides with the sole focus on re-opening Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali roads to provide connectivity to rest of India for the people of Ladakh.

            The various relief camps established by Army continue to provide shelter, food and medical care to the effected persons.  The Army medical authorities are working in consonance with Leh civil administration to prevent outbreak of any epidemic or infectious disease, which usually happen after such natural calamity and present grave danger to human beings and other living beings.
