Jammu, January 30 (Scoop News) – Minister for Agriculture,.Ghulam Hassan Mir today called upon the affluent class to come forward and help generously to the underprivileged section of the society.
The Minister was speaking at a programme organized by Sahaeen Sports Syndicate to mark Leprosy Day organized, here at Baghwati Nagar this afternoon.
President J&K Bank, Mr O.P Sharma, President Leprosy organisation, Abdul Kariem, Chairman Sahaeen Sports Syndicate Showkat Ahmad Khanyari were present on the occasion.
The Minister said that the leprosy hit people are also the part of the society and they need compassion and sympathy to help them lead a harmonious life. He strongly pleaded against attaching any stigma to the decease and the people suffering from it.
Asserting that every religion teaches to show sympathy with the ailing humanity, he said the medical researchers have already negated the stigma which was attached to many diseases in older days. He called upon the people, particularly youth to be generous to the people suffering from diseases like this by giving away a fixed amount of their earnings in charity to the organisations which are working for the noble cause.
On the occasion, Minister distributed blankets, Pressure Cookers, 10 Kg of Atta among the leprosy families in the Ashram on behalf of Sahaeen Syndicate and a Jammu based NGO.
President J&K Bank also announced that bank will provide Rs 50 thousand for the help of leprosy people residing in Baghwati Nagar Ashram.
In Kargil Anti Leprosy day was also observed at District Hospital Kargil today. On this occasion a seminar on “Leprosy and its treatment” was organized by the Chief Medical Office Kargil.
The Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Gurmeet Singh was the Chief Guest and while interacting with the public, Para Medical Staff and medical staff on this occasion Dr Gurmeet said that all the medical staff has to make a platform to discuss issues and to take initiatives to eradicate diseases like leprosy from the society. A healthy life and society should be the goal of the entire medical department. He said that in Kargil District there is only one case of leprosy and that patient is a resident of Nepal not a Kargili.
Dr Sajjad Hussain Dermatologist gave a detail description of Leprosy through power point presentation.
In the year 2011 District Hospital Kargil treated 2, 25,152 out door patients and 11,393 indoor patients and 783 major and 8926 minor operations were undertaken.
On this occasion Dr Jaffer Akhone Deputy CMO Kargil also interacted with the people and impressed upon medical professionals to provide better health service in the district.
