A wealthy couple shocked a vacation town on Long Island, New York when police found them mortally shot yesterday in an apparent murder-suicide.
Lester Stockel, 64, was a successful business owner with two adult sons and two vacation homes. Police are looking for clues as to why he shot and killed his wife, Georgiana, also 64, and then himself.
Police responded to 9-1-1 calls at the couple’s East Hampton home early on Monday morning. When they arrived, they found Georgiana Stockel in her bed, shot in the head but still alive. Lester Stockel lay next to her, dead from a gunshot wound to the head with a nine-millimeter gun in his hand. Georgiana was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Neighbors are surprised and shocked by the news. "Never once did I hear any problems or anything. Zero," John Fierro, a longtime East Hampton neighbor said. Fierro had seen Lester Stockel five days earlier and said he hugged his neighbor who appeared to be in an "upbeat mood."
Lester Stockel made millions from a credit card receipt processing company called CashFlex. The Stockel’s lived in Verona, New Jersey but had a multi-million dollar East Hampton vacation home and a home in Florida valued at $500,000.
