Biratnagar, July 3: Nepali Congress president and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has requested the Unified CPN-Maoist to help resume the House proceedings. He also warned that the former rebels would be held responsible for the consequences if the House proceedings were not resumed at the earliest.
Talking to mediapersons at Biratnagar before returning to Kathmandu on Friday morning, Koirala said the present government should be transformed into a national government by inducting the UCPN-Maoist in it. "I called upon the Maoists to join this government," the octogenarian leader said.
Responding to a query on whether the Maoists would lead the national government, Koirala said that it was too early to answer that. "The Maoists are changing with times. Earlier, Prachanda used to say that he should lead the national government. Now, he has been saying that his party should lead the government," Koirala added.
In another query, Koirala said that there was no need to amend constitution to prescribe the role of the PM and the President. "Their roles have already been prescribed in the constitution. Amendment in not necessary," he claimed. Commenting on border disputes between Nepal and India, Koirala said such disputes should be resolve at diplomatic level. "I have been informed that the government is taking up the issue at the diplomatic level," the NC president said.
Koirala also said that he wouldn’t be active in party politics for long because of his ailing health. "I will just give suggestions to party leaders," he added. Koirala also said the general convention of the party would be held after the Chhath Festival in October.
