Four film personalities who have made a significant contribution to the cinema industry over several decades are to be honoured with a ‘One Time Lifetime Achievement Award’by the Indian Government.
The four persons who are recognized by the Indian Government are thespian Dilip Kumar, the singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, noted director Tapan Sinha and the acclaimed South Indian Actress B.Saroja Devi.The awards have been announced, ‘to commemorate the 60 th anniversary of India’s Independence.’
Tapan Sinha, for his contribution to the field of film direction, will be conferred with the award at his residence by West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi tomorrow owing to illhealth.Union minister of information and broadcasting, P.R.Dasmunshi will also be present at the function.
Sinha’s award citation commends him for his amazingly down- to-earth cinematic depiction of the struggles of the common man.His reputation as an uncompromising film maker, a celluloid iconoclast puts him in a class of his own.
