Live Review – Behemoth as guests of Lamb of God w/Hatebreed & 3 Inches of Blood

It has been a long haul for Polish Black Metal kings Behemoth both in career and travel as they sank their fangs into Vancouver on a blistering Friday the 13th. We waited anxiously to grab a cold one regardless of the heat, for the real scorcher took place once inside the Croatian Cultural Center.
With a shorter than expected set by most standards, the boys were eager to unleash the Euro-beast that dwelled from within. After a devastating and even shorter set (4 songs to be exact) our hometown heroes 3 Inches of Blood had “Fired Up the Blades” once again and did as best they could with the minuscule amount of time allotted “The Goatriders Horde” faired well with the crowd even with the absence of vocalist Jamie Hooper.
This was in fact a day off from Ozzfest, which we were once again excluded from the map .Nonetheless, the mighty Behemoth pulled as many classics as they could, but the highlight had to be their first new track of the night from their thunderous new release–The Apostasy (Century Media)
“We would like to play you a new one” bellowed the throaty Nergal .
The track “Prometherion” kicked in – full force, but was not nearly as loud as they (or the crew) could have been. No fault of their own as tour politics ensued and well, that’s Rock n’ Roll.
Overall, Behemoth demolished the crowd and they were happy to be the victims.
Hatebreed came and conquered- no complaints. Where complaints did rest, with the large crowd were with the soundless soundboard sods that had inadvertently ruined the opening tracks for headliners Lamb of God.
The Virginia –based Grammy nominated band were visually upset , and lead vocalist Randy Blythe was more than apologetic, and the band let loose a furious set after the sound had kicked back in (and out again) a devout crowd were by no means bored once the stage tech turned his back to bare his Nickelback shirt. Not a wise move. Chants of “Nickelback sucks” coupled with “Fuck Nickelback” ensued but the Godly Sheep of Metal resurfaced and the show went on without a hitch.
