After winning against Oscar de la Hoya in the recently concluded “Dream Match” in Las Vegas, Nevada, all directions point to the world-famous Wembley Stadium in London, for the new boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao. That is if promoters give a thumbs up for a Pacquiao-Hatton match and the promoters agree to the terms and conditions.
It appears that a shortlist of Pacquiao’s possible opponents has been drafted and from all indications it looks like a final draft. In the shortlist are Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Edwin Valero and Juan Manuel Marquez in that order.
If both camps agree on a Pacquiao-Hatton match up, the camp of Ricky Hatton is eyeing on the world-famous Wembley Stadium in London as the next venue. Wembley is one of the biggest in the world. It is the site of the 2012 major Olympic events.
Manny Pacquiao looks excited on the proposed venue. It will be a change of atmosphere and a graceful departure from the much-publicized, overexposed Las Vegas entertainment center where he made history in boxing.
The Pacquiao-Hatton match-up could develop into another boxing blockbuster that is calculated to bring in substantial profits to the promoters and contenders. It is possible that with a carefully crafted publicity strategy, it could surpass the revenues generated by the “Dream Match” both on pay-per-view, advertisements and gate receipts.
Depending on the decision of the promoters whose main concerns are their own bottom lines, a Pacquiao-Mayweather match is also possible. Certainly it would be a dream-come-true fight for Floyd Mayweather in terms of prize money as the match-up could surpass the revenues generated by his last match with de la Hoya.
Other possible opponents of Pacquiao in his next fight are Edwin Valero and Juan Manuel Marquez.
After the much publicized “Dream Match” some enterprising boxing fans have come up with some interesting promotional billing such as: “King Kong vs. Hitman”, Pacman vs. The Hitman” and Pacman-Hitman: Duel at Wembley”.
In the meantime, Manny Pacquiao is busy with his business commitments in his home country. He will arrive in the Philippines tomorrow for his usual homecoming parade in the streets of metro manila, visit a church for his thanksgiving mass and prayers and to pay respect to the President of the Philippines. Then he goes back to his hometown in Southern Philippines to be with his mother and immediate family members.
He may have to report to his professors at the local university where he is pursuing a college degree before returning to the United States to be with his wife who is due to give birth early next month.
