The Water Development Boardof Bangladesh has adopted the long-time flood forecasting technology as a precaution of the climate change impact
The long-time flood forecasting technology consists of three forcasting scheme types namely short term (1 – 10 days), medium term(20 – 25 days) and long term (1 – 6 months) compared the existing 3-day forecasting technology.
The application of newly introduced technology is tested in five different pilot areas in the country.
Global Earth Observation System of Systemsunder whose framework a 10-year disaster management plan has been taken, plans to improve sustainable water resources management in the country.
As per the plan, Bangladesh is going to evolve another flood recasting model and this will be applied in major river Meghna and the country’s other remaining river basins will be brought under the same model in different phases. Flood is very common particularly in the monsoon season in Bangladesh and the season is from June to September every year.
