After a jury met on Tuesday, Juan Lopez Jr, 50, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 47 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for fatally stabbing a man late last year.
Juan Lopez Jr. is currently accused of stabbing a 30 year old man, named Martin Cantu in June last year. The stabbing took place outside a strip club in the 5500 block of Leopard St. After a dispute between Cantu and a female dancer got heated, Lopez intervened and subsequently ended the dispute by stabbing Cantu, according to a witness.
In the moments following the incident, Cantu’s friend drove him to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial, where he was later pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, A jury deliberated for about an hour and a half and returned a guilty verdict with a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. He is sentenced to 47 years in prison.
