Lori Gradwell thought her relationship with married New York Assemblyman Sam Hoyt ended in January 2005. That was before scandalous emails sent during their affair went public this week.
Lori Gradwell and Sam Hoyt began their affair in 2003 when Gradwell was a 24-year-old intern with another New York State Legislator. Hoyt was 41 at the time and, although he broke his marriage vows, insists that his relationship with Gradwell didn’t break any rules. Since then, a number of other sex scandals led the New York Assembly to ban relationships between interns and Assembly members.
The emails read like letters between two enamoured high schoolers. Hoyt wrote "I wish… I could see you do that little cheerleader move… could be kissing that perfect stomach of yours… I miss you so much. xoxo."
Lori Gradwell is now 29 and studying for her law degree, hoping to leave her relationship with Hoyt and her x-rated emails in the past. Sam Hoyt, on the other hand, has to look this affair square in the face as he faces reelection in three weeks for a seat he has held since 1992.
