Boston Massachusetts. Los Angeles Angels right handed starting pitcher Garrett Richards, 26, has been placed on the 60 day disabled list on Wednesday by the management of the team. Richards has a torn patellar tendon on his left knee.
Richards who is in his third season with the Angels injured his left knee when he was covering first base on a potential double play ball in the second inning on Wednesday night at Fenway Park in Boston. The Angels won the game versus the Boston Red Sox 8-3.
Richards has a tear on his left patellar tendon on his left knee. Richards will have an operation next week to repair the damage to his left knee in California. Richards will not return to the Angels starting rotation until the middle of the 2015 baseball season.
Richards is one of the Angels best starting pitchers this baseball season. The Angels management will likely have to find a replacement pitcher from the waiver wire or from their minor league system to replace Richards on the 25 man roster.
The good news is that the Angels are in first place in the American League West Division after the conclusion of all Major League Baseball games on Wednesday.
