Los Angeles California. On Wednesday Los Angeles Clippers head coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers has signed a contract extension to remain as the head coach of the basketball coach through the end of the 2019 basketball season.
Rivers in his first year as the basketball coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2013-14 regular season led the team to the Pacific Division title with a record of 57-25. The Clippers lost in the Western Conference Semi Finals in the best of seven playoff series in six games to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The new owner of the Los Angeles Clippers Steve Ballmer decided to extend the contract of Rivers who is also the team president as well as the basketball coach. Time will tell if there will be harmony between Ballmer and Rivers for the next five years.
Rivers was the former basketball coach of the Boston Celtics from 2004-2013. Rivers has won National Basketball Association championship ring as the coach of the Celtics. It remains to be seen if Rivers will be able to lead the Clippers to their first National Basketball Association Championship in the history of the franchise that began to play basketball in the league in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves.
Rivers reached an agreement to coach and be the team president of the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer of 2013. The Celtics will receive from the Clippers their first round draft pick in 2015 as compensation for having Rivers leave the Celtics to coach the Clippers.
