Jammu,January 16 (Scoop News) – The government today said that buffer stocks of essential commodities are available in the state, while special attention was being paid to ensure smooth distribution of the same among the people.
This was made out at a high level joint meeting of Transport, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Departments with Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr Qamar Ali Akhoon in the chair.
Commissioner Secretary Transport Pardeep Gupta, Secretary CA&PD Muhammad Abbas Dar, Inspector General of Police, Traffic H. K. Lohia, Director CA&PD Parvaiz Ahmad Malik, Managing Director, JKSRTC J. S. Tondon, Joint Transport Commissioner Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad,
besides State Level Coordinator of Oil Companies in Jammu and Kashmir R.K.Sahaf, representative of Oil Companies and senior officers of CAPD and Transport Department were also present at the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the stock and supplies position of essential commodities in the state and took some crucial decisions to meet the challenges thrown by the inclement weather condition and heavy snowfall being experienced in the state for the last forty eight hours.
The minister directed the Transport and Traffic department to ensure better regulation of traffic on the major routes to avoid logjams. He underlined the need for maintaining close coordination among various agencies involved in the traffic regulation on National Highways. The minister asked the regulating authorities to give the essential supplies freights, including food grain, fuel and LPG gas freights priority on the opening of Jammu Srinagar and Batote Kishtiwar National Highways.
The Minister asked the CA&PD department to depute enforcement squads to monitor the market rates and keep a check on black marketing of essential commodities, especially LPG. He asked the authorities to take stern action against the Gas agencies found indulging black marketing of gas and ensure that the consumers get the refilled cylinders within twenty four hours after the booking of the same.
The State Level Coordinator of Oil Companies, Mr R K Sahaf informed that the buffer stocks of LPG gas are available across the state and there was no need of panic. He said the distribution of the gas would be further streamlined with the clearance of local roads in all snow bound areas of Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
