Reliance LYF, the 4G smartphone brand by Reliance Retail, has begun its advertisement campaign in full swing. Only days after it launched its logo with the tagline of “Smartphone +” by adorning its name in the sleeves of jerseys of two IPL teams – Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), LYF has come out with its first video commercial. Starring Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and cricketers M. S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin among other MI and RCB players, the 45-second video was shared on social media on April 20, and subsequently went viral with it also appearing on the front page of YouTube India.
The advertisement primarily talks about LYF phones’ ability in general to stream life-like videos with HD quality and sound. In the video, R Ashwin, a die-hard fan of Kangana Ranaut, comments about his phone’s low quality and why he is unable to enjoy a video of her performance. That is when Ajinkya Rahane comes along and introduces a LYF smartphone to him, promising that now the video will feel more life-like and real, as Dhoni and Kohli nod their heads in approval. It also features Ranaut enacting the popular character from her National Award-winning 2014 film, Queen. Directed by eminent Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, the ad video was shot in March and was uploaded on LYF’s Facebook page last week. Hours after the upload, the video was viewed thousands of times and was shared across various social media platforms. Equipped with LED display screens, true LTE 4G hardware, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and front- and rear-cameras with high megapixels, LYF 4G Smartphones are available to buy in retail outlets and in online retailing sites like Amazon and Grofers throughout the country.
LYF Smartphone+ is a range of lifestyle 4G smartphones marketed as the Elements Collection. Its flagship handset, LYF EARTH 1, was launched in January while the other models like LYF WATER 1 and LYF WIND 6 were launched in the later weeks. Currently, the collection has five different models from which users can choose according to their requirements. Upon launch, LYF FLAME 1 became the first VoLTE smartphone in India to be priced at less than INR 5000.
LYF phones are sold by Reliance Retail, the retailing arm of India’s largest conglomerate, Reliance Industries (RIL). It is being marketed along with its sister concern, Reliance Jio, an upcoming 4G service provider with a pan-India license. Together with Jio’s 4G network, LYF phones are sure to make a splash in the smartphone market.
