India’s controversial and famous painter M.F.Hussain has got his 15 paintings auctioned in a painting exhibition held in New York,US for a hefty sum of Rs 6.50 crores.
M.F.Hussain, a celebrated painter from India has always been a controversial personality as a person as well as a painter in India.But undoubtedly Mr.Hussain is a reputed painter internationally.
Mr.M.F.Hussain was criticised much for his controversial paintings of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses, since he picturised the Hindu Gods and Goddesses rather critically in a bad taste.
Under the above mentioned circumstances,15 paintings of Mr.M.F.Hussain were also exhibited in New York, in the’South Asian Modern Paintings Exhibition’.One bidding agency under one Chritsty had made arrangements to auction the above paintings.
Some Indo-Americans who were opposed to Mr.Hussain’s critical depiction of Hindu Gods and Goddesses gathered in front of the bidding agency headed by Christy with banners and placards and raised slogans against Mr.Hussain and also demanded to give up the auctioning of Mr.Hussain’s paintings.
Reacting to the demontrators, the spokeswoman of Christy’s Bidding Agency,Ms.Sara Fox came up with a reply that the painting exhibition consists of various paintings reflecting different religions, culture and’ we also receive different types of feedbacks, opinions and criticisms, either they are positive or sometimes they are negative.Hence, there is no question of giving up the bidding of Hussain’s paintings.’
In the end Mr.M.F.Hussain’s painitngs were auctioned in the open bidding and his 15 paintings were sold for a whopping sum of Rs 6.50 crores.
