Noted magician Samraj lost consciousness and was rushed to hospital by the police after he lay in a ‘mobile mortuary’ on Tuesday to protest against superstar Mohanlal’s decision to do a fire escape act. Samraj and dozens of other magicians had come out against the actor’s decision to perform the dangerous stunt saying that it would kill and trivialise their profession. As part of the protest, Samraj, along with ‘mourners’ dressed in black, entered a mobile mortuary (frozen casket used to keep deadbodies from decomposing) at the Marine Drive in Kochi in front of hundreds of people.
“I am going to lie here until I die,” said the magician with a smile as his assistants wore suitably solemn expressions. The casket was shut tight. Then it was lifted to a decorated vehicle and the ‘funeral procession’ started. However, it was soon blocked by the police who entered the vehicle and asked Samraj to get up. The assistant commissioner of police knocked the glass cover of the casket but Samraj lay silent. Police then opened the mobile mortuary. But there was still no response from Samraj, who had apparently lost consciousness. The cops and the ‘mourners’ then rushed a supine Samraj to the hospital, where he was given immediate medical care. It was then that the magician finally opened his eyes. Police officers are planning to book a case against him for his stunt.
