A new name has been added to the Board of directors of the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited. Erstwhile IAS officer, Maheshwar Sahu, will now be serving as an independent director in the organization. The Bombay Stock Exchange was informed about this by the company on 19th February, 2015.

Including 8 independent Directors, a total of 14 members form the Board of Reliance Industries: Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Hital Meswani, Nikhil Meswani, P.M.S Prasad, Pawan Kumar Kapil, Mansingh Bhakta, Yogendra Trivedi, Dr. Dharam VirKapur, Prof. Ashok Misra, Prof. Dipak Jain,Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Adil Zainulbhai, and, now, Maheshwar Sahu.
The Chairman of the Board’s Human Resources and Remuneration Committee, Adil Zainulbhai expressed his delight on the new appointment. He said that they are hopeful that Sahu’s contribution will strengthen the company and foster its growth and development.
Maheshwar Sahu
Sahu played an important role in the formulation of policies in Gujarat. He led industrial development in the state. He was also the man behind the success of then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Vibrant Gujarat annual summit.
The 60-year-old Sahu has had a glorious career. He has been the Chairman of Gujarat State Financial Corporation and a Joint Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications at Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. He has also been Joint Secretary at Ministry of Environment & Forests and an Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries and Mining Department in Gujarat. Besides, he has worked with the Central Government for about a decade.
Sahu’s experience in the civil services span over 23 years. He has also worked for three years with the United Nations Organization. Besides, he established two societies in Gujarat meant to encourage corporate social responsibility schemes.
In 1977, he acquired a degree in Electrical Engineering. He post-graduated from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom with a degree in Development Administration in 1994.
