Lots of foods that appear to be vegetarian friendly really aren’t. This list will help you make sure to have vegetarian-friendly foods at your Thanksgiving dinner. (Don’t worry, meat eaters – this list tells you to include the turkey, too!)
First, plan your Thanksgiving dinner. You can, of course, have turkey and meat, but plan some vegetarian-friendly food as well. You’ve got tons of choices for this: soup, salad, cranberry sauce, stuffing, yams, vegetarian lasagna…the possibilities are endless!
Do not single out the vegetarian at your Thanksgiving meal. If you’re going to make vegetarian friendly food, make it for everyone! Even people who eat meat can appreciate vegetarian friendly foods.
When buying packaged items, check the ingredients. Just because stuffing doesn’t say that it is chicken or turkey flavored does not mean that it is vegetarian friendly. Most Stove Top brand stuffing has chicken or turkey broth in it.
Alter everyday recipes to be vegetarian friendly. Make soup great for everyone, vegetarians included, by using vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. You can make delicious vegetable soup either way!
Think before adding the "extras" on foods. If you really like bacon bits on your salad, make the salad but keep the bacon bits on the side. No one will mind adding their own bacon bits to their salad.
Instead of a traditional lasagna, give everyone a healthier alternative with vegetarian lasagna. You can make lasagna filling and delicious for everyone by stuffing it with spinach or mushrooms.
Get creative! Looking for a fun side dish? Why not try eggplant rollatini? How about stuffed shells? How about vegetables? Green
Include the basics in the meal: fresh bread, vegetables, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes can make your vegetarian friend or family member very happy.
Remember: vegetarians are not trying to make your Thanksgiving difficult. People generally do not become vegetarians to make people’s lives more difficult. You do not need to go completely out of your way to accommodate a vegetarian at Thanksgiving – just make sure to have lots of fun foods that everyone can enjoy!
