Jammu, November 23 (Scoop News) –Principal Secretary Home, B. R. Sharma today called for making liberal donations towards the Flag Day funds being raised for the welfare of sn Ex- Servicemen and their dependants.
Reviewing the collections being raised by Heads of Departments, Dy. Commissioners and engineering departments in connection with the Flag Day at the State Level Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) meeting, the Principal Secretary said that AFFD is celebrated every year on Dec.07 to honour the valiant martyrs, who sacrificed their precious lives for national security. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner/Secretary, School Education, Ms. Naseema Lanker, sc Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal, Director Resettlement, Northern Command, Col Lokesh Kushwah, Director General Accounts and Treasuries, sn Wali Mohammad Bhat Commissioner/Secretary, I&C, Ms. Umang Namla, Secretary, PDD, Syed Altaf Hussain, Director Information, Kh. Farooq Renzu Shah and DIG, Adm. PHQ, Alok Puri.
Highlighting the aims and objectives of the Flag Day (FD), B.R Sharma said that it is observed for raising funds for the implementation of welfare schemes undertaken by the Sainik Welfare Department. He said making liberal and meaningful contribution towards this fund is a great charity as it is used for the welfare of these who are protecting the nation from the enemies aggression both from within and outside . He said the funds so collected are judiciously spent on extending financial help to economically distressed ex-servicemen (ESM) their widows and dependents, besides proving educational incentives to their children.
Appreciating the efforts of those who have made substantial contributions towards the Flag Day, Sharma solicited their cooperation and hoped that all efforts would be made to achieve the fixed targets for this noble cause.
Giving details of collection, Sharma said that as against the collections of Rs.15, 16,076 last year, Rs.18, 36,207 has been raised during the current year.
Sharma impressed upon all HOD’s, Dy. Commissioners and engineering departments to redouble their efforts for a major collection . Those who avail government services like licenses and other sanctions for commercial purposes should also be persuaded to contribute towards AFF Day Fund, he added..
Speaking on the occasion, Director Sainik Welfare Board, Brig. R.S. Langeh said that the allocation of funds are mainly utilized for rehabilitation of battle sn causalities, resettlement and welfare of ESMs and their families
Brig. Langeh further said that the Government organizations who contribute more than Rs. one lakh are awarded with trophies to recognize their efforts.
The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs.3,71,600 was disbursed among 334 ESM children as one time educational incentive , while Rs.5,55,000 was spent for arranging ,marriages of 111 daughters of ESMs , besides Rs.3,68,500 were given to 277 widows and orphans of ESMs.
