Malawi Information Minister tells employers to look after journalists well.
Malawian Minister of Information and Civic Education Patricia Kaliati has advised organisations that employ journalists to properly look after them to avoid them being an embarrassment to the society.
Kaliati, who was speaking at a press conference recently in Malawi’s Capital Lilongwe told media bodies to take up the issue with employers.
The Minister cautioned the organisations after revelations that most media organisations in the country were paying 100 American dollars journalists with school certificates .
She lamented the habit of some journalists of asking news sources to give them money saying it taints the image of all journalists in the country.
Recently National Media Institute for Southern Africa(NAMISA) cautioned journalists not to ask for money from news sources.
This was after one journalist asked a Member of Parliament for money.
