Malawian Nurses Suspended

THREE MALAWIAN NURSES SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICE

Three Malawian nurses have been suspended from practicing nursing for their unprofessional condcut, Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi has said.

The press release say the nurses have their licenses revoked because of  unsafe practice, negligence, and conducting duties unprofessionally that led to the loss of two pregnant women at Likuni Hospital in Central Malawi and Karonga Hospital in Northern Malawi.

The nurses are Koletta Makwinja and Rebecca Ngwira  of Likuni Hospital and Pauline  Mboma of Karonga District Hospital.

Cases of negligence among medical personnel in Malawi are high. However, most medical officers defend their staff if they have done wrong for fear of losing staff.

Malawi has a critical shortage of  nurses in most of the government district hospital as most of them look for greener pastures outside the country .

Although  the government has increased salary of nurses and increased the enrolment in nursing colleges, few opt to work in hospital .They later leave after getting the experience.

Most Malawian nurses opt to work in United Kingdom.
