Ahead of her declared indefinite siege of Tata Motors NANO car plant at Singur from 24th August , an anonymous caller has threatened to ‘Kill’ Mamata Banerjee over phone, if she persists with her siege of the world’s cheapest car plant, which is nearing completion. The caller was speaking in Bengali.
Mamata received the call by herself at about 8.00pm and the caller disconnected when she raised an alarm. Ten minutes later Mamata got an SMS saying, “If Tata Motors withdraw from Singur, let us ensure TMC’s exit from planet earth.” TMC or Trinamul Congress is the political party floated by Mamata after her break up from Indian National Congress in 1997.
Disclosing this at a press conference TMC leader Partho Chatterjee said that the party chief got the call last evening (5th July) on her landline phone at her home in Kalighat in the Central Calcutta.
Already her party activists have beaten up an engineer of Tata Motors Plant when he ventured outside for purchases in the market. He had to be hospitalized. TMC leader of Singur area has vowed to drive out Tatas from Singur and have been threatening workers to leave work at the plant. Many workers have left the Tata Motors plant out of fear as a fall out. A lodge housing the workers from outside the state was also attacked about a week ago by TMC activists.
Political circles believe that Mamata is out to create a situation like the one in Nandigram, which has resulted in her winning the district council of that district. She probably believes that the indefinite siege of Tata Motors Car Plant may give her the leverage in the Industrial belt of Hooghly district, which she has been unable to dent so far.
