Crack homicide detectives have arrested a 60-year old man who allegedly beat his brother-in-law to death over inadequate care of his sister.
Until the incident, it was gathered that the suspect, James Akpan, a resident of 25, Alhaji Abiola Street, Olowora, Isheri, Lagos, had complained that Kingsley Udo, 30 year-old (now deceased) deliberately took his sister (name withheld) to the village in Akwa-Ibom State when she was about to put to bed for inexplicable reasons and abandoned her without making provision for her adequate care.
Miffed by this non-challant attitude, it was learnt that James went after his brother-in-law, Kingsley, in his home and queried why he took the decision of dumping his sister in the village without prior knowledge of the family at a material time she needed adequate care to assist her through the labour period.
In the process, we reliably gathered that the argument degenerated into a fisticuff during which Kingsley gave up the ghost as a result of the severe battering he sustained from his assailant.
However, Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the incident.
According to the Superintendent of Police (SP), the suspect was being detained and quizzed by the homicide operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti Street, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation into the matter.
