Man arrested for cutting off private parts of a fellow man
The Ntcheu Police in Central Malawi on Tuesday arrested Raphael Kainga, a 27-year-old man for allegedly attacking Patrick Zuzu and cutting his private parts (penis and testicles) last week.
Patrick was attacked by three thugs who overpowered him and cut off his private parts and run away.
He has since been referred to Lilongwe Central Hospital from Ntcheu District Hospital.
Police have said Raphael was part of the team that attacked Patrick saying his accomplices have since gone into hiding.
He is being detained at Ntcheu Police and will appear in court soon.
Both the victim and the attackers come from the same district.
In another development, a man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour by the High Court in the commercial city of Blantyre for cutting private parts of a fellow man.
The court heard that Peter Chakuamba pleaded guilty to cutting private parts of another man (name withheld).
He, however, said he was asked by a businessman to get the private parts and said it is the business man in the tea growing district of Mulanje in Southern Malawi who knows where the private parts are.
Patrick, the businessman has also been arrested. He was released on bail but when the President of Malawi Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika visited the hospital and cheered the victim, he instructed the police to re-arrest the businessman.
He has since been denied bail.
The accomplices of Patrick have since gone into hiding.
Issues of cutting private parts have become very common in cities in Malawi. It is alleged that the businessmen sell the private parts to fellow businessman in South Africa who in run sell them to Japan and Europe.
Although the police have arrested some people, this crime is repeatedly being committed. It seems the ring leaders are not yet caught.
There are speculations that such ring leaders are very powerful people who corrupt officers with money.
Recently a boy in the Capital City of Malawi, Lilongwe has his private parts cut after his parents sent him to buy groceries at a nearby shop.
The thugs dragged the boy and cut off his private parts leaving him in great pain.
He was rushed to the hospital and doctors managed to save his life.
