Man photographs top secret military base at AREA 51 – from 26 miles away!

Detailed picture of the top secret Air Force testing facility at Groom Lake, Nevada – taken from a distance of 26 miles away. Trevor Paglen.

Trevor Paglen has photographed numerous top secretmilitary installations, at various times in the United States using an advanced “telescope lens similar to the kind that’s used to capture images of distant planets.”

Among the military bases Paglen photographed are, arguably, some of the most secret in the country. Including the top secret Air Force Flight Test Center, located at Groom Lake, Nevada in AREA 51 – which is absolutely off limits to the public.

Paglen reportedly accomplished this particular feat from a vantage point 26 miles away, using high-powered telescopes and a technique he calls “limit-telephotography” (see article: Limit-Telephotographer Spies on Stealth Military Installationshttp://www.wired.com/culture/art/magazine/15-07/pl_art).

Area 51 is a military base located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas.

Paglen used the same limit-telephotography methods to also capture detailed pictures of the top secret National Reconnaissance Office Ground Station in Jornada del Muerto, New Mexico.

He then posted the pictures online without any regard to the national security interests of the United States.
