Pre-season games for Manchester United were just great. They won the Community Shield beating rivals Chelsea on penalty shootout. The new signings were just what Sir Alex was bargaining for. With all the very best players in the world, no one would have expected the current status for the United. Two draws and one defeat in the first 3 games. United are five points adrift of main rivals Chelsea after claiming just two points from their first three games. The star striker Rooney fractured his leg. Cristiano Ronaldo’s red card from the game against Pompey and the subsequent suspension from the City game just added to their misery. The reigning champions have dominated all three of their opening games, but failed to convert a sea of chances, registering just one single goal to date.
Manchester United have made their worst start since 1992, when they lost two and drew one of their first three games, before recovering to go on and win the inaugural Premier League title.
The last game against Manchester City was nothing short of a disaster for the United. Vidic hit the woodwork and Tevez saw a late header fly agonisingly wide but City, led by the impressive Micah Richards, held out and United are still winless this season. Despite United dominating, the goal would just not come for Ferguson’s men and their frustrating afternoon was summed up with every missed chances.
The next game against Tottenham on Sunday which has become very important match for the United. Just with 3 games completed United is already facing an uphill task. The next few matches will be very crucial for United in their run for the title. Can United hold on under this immense pressure and come out in flying colours. Let’s check it out on Sunday, August 26, 2007.
