Mango season is in full swing in Tamil Nadu and the neigbour state Puducherry. Interestingly the ‘Mangani’ festival celebrated in Puducherry coincides with the mango season but the ‘Mangani’ festival is not meant for business purpose or campaign but has a religious fervor and purpose.
A large number of devotees thronged the Vedapureeswarar temple here on Wednesday to celebrate the ‘Mangani’(mango) festival.
The festival was an annual event to commemorate the legend of Karaikal Ammaiyar, the lone woman saint among the 63 Nayanmars, the Saiva saints, giving away a rare mango to ‘Bikshadanar’(Lord Siva)
The temple car adorned with mangoes and carrying the idol of Karaikkal Ammaiyar was drawn by the devotees as part of the festival.
Mangoes were distributed to devotees near the temple.
